We caught up with Jenn and asked her some questions about what makes her business so successful.
What inspired you to start this business?
I started The Village Sprout in a desperate attempt to stay at home with my babies. It started out as nursing necklaces that we sold locally and on etsy. It wasn't until I had an incredible birth at home in 2015 that I started to seek out a profession in the birth world. I started to ask around and connected with my birth instructor. She connected me with classes and I began my journey into the birth community. The Village Sprout transformed into Birth Services.
How long have you been in this business?
Since 2013
What keeps you going every day?
My husband and my mom inspire me and they give me the feedback I need to thrive. My children are my blessings... I am so grateful to work from home and be present for them when they need me. I hope to improve the birth world for the day that my children are having their babies.
What is your favorite part about your business?
Being able to be a part of such an intimate, incredible & amazing journey that a family takes through birth & postpartum but also able to be home with my family during the times they need me the most.
List the services you provide
Birth & Beyond Childbirth Education (I am also a trainer), Birth & Postpartum Doula (and trainer), Placenta Specialist, and Certified Lactation Counselor. I am also Certified in Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders.
Out of all of the services you provide, what would you say is your specialty?
Support is my specialty.. support in pregnancy, support in birth, support in postpartum. I pride myself on my ability to listen and love.
What is one thing you would like us to know about your business?
I want them to know that I am there for them. I want them to know that I have experienced birth trauma. I have experienced a long labor (72 hours) and I experienced having a cesarean surgery after that long labor. I experienced a newborn in the NICU. I experienced a hospital vbac and two home births. I have experienced PTSD, Postpartum Depression, Prenatal Anxiety, and Postpartum OCD. And now I am on the other side... I'm out of the fuzz. Here I am, for you, ready to ride with you on this journey.
What's the best compliment you have ever received?
I received thank you card and letter in the mail. What was so special was that it wasn't from my clients but instead, it was from my client's parents. They told me that I was such a strong support for them and they were just in the waiting room! They said that when everything was said and done, they didn't want me to leave. It was so heartwarming that I was able to supply peace of mind to these parents that their children and new grandbaby were okay.
What makes your business unique?
I run The Village Sprout as my business but I am also the CEO of Birth and Beyond Resources. I love our tagline for BBR... For the Village, By the Village. I think it really encompasses what we do and how we got here.
