What is Stillbirth?
Stillbirth is further classified as either early, late, or term.
- An early stillbirth is a fetal death occurring between 20 and 27 completed weeks of pregnancy.
- A late stillbirth occurs between 28 and 36 completed pregnancy weeks.
- A term stillbirth occurs between 37 or more completed pregnancy weeks..
Stillbirth affects about 1 in 100 pregnancies, and each year about 24,000 babies are stillborn in the United States.1 That is about the same number of babies that die during the first year of life and it is more than 10 times as many deaths as the number that occur from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
On the morning of November 12, 2018, Noelle and Chris Beutler found out that the baby they had been carrying for 9 months didn't have a heartbeat.
They returned home and labored peacefully surrounded by love. At 4:10 PM, Saoirse Sapphire was born sleeping. The most perfect baby girl was encompassed by a circle of love and support of the Beutlers and their birth team.
Noelle founded the Sapphire Sea Program to help parents navigate this very lonely and sad path of having to lose a child.
Each parent that reaches out to us regarding a stillbirth will receive a package from the Sapphire Sea Program. The package is meant to help the parents with lists of resources, ideas on what to do, support for the future.
Please accept our sincere and heartfelt love. We see you.
